The Public Works Division of the Department of Public Facilities is responsible for the maintenance of public shade trees in the City of New Bedford. The work performed by this division includes, but is not limited to, trimming of healthy trees, removal of dead or diseased trees, planting of new trees and brush clearing along public roadways.

In addition, this division is responsible for the maintenance of many high visibility areas throughout the city on a seasonal basis as well as providing assistance with Christmas decorations and the curbside collection and disposal; of Christmas trees for city residents in the month of January.
