The New Bedford Fire Department protects a
diverse community of just under 100,000 population.
The department is responsible for fire protection services that include the New
Bedford Harbor, the Regional Airport, Industrial Park, Downtown, and high rise
apartments in addition to residential properties.
The Fire Department responds with 10 Fire Companies (6 Engine Companies, 3
Ladder Companies, a Rescue Boat, and a crash fire rescue vehicle at the airport).
Emergency Medical calls are handled by the Emergency Medical Services. The fire
department responds with EMS and provides basic life support at all Priority
one calls.
The city is divided into 2 areas for fire response and is commanded by a
District Chief in each district.
Fire Prevention activities are provided through the Fire Prevention Bureau
which is comprised of:
